Rossini, Salmieri and the hard-working cast made this, in the end, a jolly and highly entertaining evening. Operosa has worthy aims, is dedicated to its young singers, and has found itself rather a fine spot to continue its endeavors.
Purpose & Aim
Operosa is a classical music and opera festival founded by Finnish mezzo soprano Katherine Haataja in 2006. Operosa promotes young opera talent and contemporary interpretation to a modern audience. The aim of Operosa is to focus on repertoire ideally suited for young opera singers while working with leading international guest artistic directors and showcasing opera as a modern form of art and entertainment.
Operosa launched the first open air opera festival in June 2007 with a fully staged “Don Giovanni” by W.A. Mozart in the garden of the stunning Evksinograd Castle overlooking the Black Sea in Varna, Bulgaria. The opening event featured a young talented cast and chamber orchestra led by international team of conductor, stage director, and designers.
Operosa Montenegro Opera Festival
Following the Montenegrin national opera premiere by Operosa in 2014 at Porto Montenegro theater with „Romeo & Juliette” by Ch. Gounod, the Operosa Montenegro Opera Festival now takes place in the Old Town, the Forte Mare and the Kanli Kula Fortresses in open air in Herceg Novi on the Adriatic coast. Since 2015 the festival has been awarded the EFFE label of European Festivals.
In 2012 Operosa established a social media website called the Operosa Forum for worldwide communication between opera audiences, artists, producers and institutions to discuss future engagements, opportunities and upload current examples of their work.
Operosa Academia is a program for young artists and professionals to gain important direction in their careers within the performing arts. The Academia guests have included world class opera stars such as American mezzo soprano Jennifer Larmore, Bulgarian soprano Darina Takova and Serbian alto Marijana Mijanovic. In 2015 Operosa was invited to join ENOA - the European Network of Opera Academies - broadening the extent of opportunities for the young artists at Operosa.
