Professor Christian Constantinov graduated in sound engineering from the Musical Academy “P.Vladigerov”. Michel Glotz, the producer of Herbert von Karajan met Constantinov in Bulgaria where he came to record the operas Khovanshchina and Boris Godounov with the conductor Emil Chakarov. Glots invited Constantinov to work for “Deutsche Gramophon” – this the authorities did not allow. In 1987 Constantinov emigrated to the USA. Destiny would have it that in New York he met Tom Frost - the producer of the world famous musician Vladimir Horovitz. Thus, the American career of Prof Constantinov was launched. Later on he moved to the recording studio of CBS TV. When Sony bought CBS Records Constantinov became part of the spectacular progress of Sony Music. He worked with the stars Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, George Michael, Bon Jovi, as well as with the bands Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, Oasis … He became vice-president of Sony Music, controlling classical music recording operations worth 121 million dollars. Nine times was he nominated for the Grammy award and finally it was his – for the recording of a performance of the pianist Daniel Barenboim and the violinist Itzhak Perlman. Constantinov stayed with Michel Glotz, the man who first trusted his qualities. Together they recorded more than 50 CDs. In 2001 Christian Constantinov left Sony Music to start a consultancy business of his own. In 2004 he returned to Bulgaria, but continued his lectures as a visiting professor at the universities of Berkley and McGeal in Montreal and his consultancy work with Sony Music. As of October 2009 Professor Constantinov is in charge of the first musical business master program in Bulgaria. This is a joint project of the National Musical Academy “Pancho Vladigerov” and the International Business School.
Prof. Dimo Dimov (piano) / guest recitalist
Graduated from the Sofia Musical School and the State Musical Academy in the class of the professors Julia and Konstantin Ganev. He specialized under their guidance, too. In 1983- 1984 г. he specialized further with Prof. Lilly Kraus in the USA. At the International Piano Competition of Athens (1979) he won the first prize, too. The jury, the public and the musical critics unanimously pronounced the pianist the absolute winner of this important competition and his performance of Beethoven was compared to that of Sv Richter. D.Dimov performs with great success individually and as a soloist at concerts in Europe, Asia and the USA. From 1986 to 1991 he gave master classes in Greece.
D.Dimov’s students have become laureates at local and international competitions. Currently, the musician is piano professor at the State Musical Academy “Pancho Vladiguerov”.
Ivan Penchev (violin) guest recitalist
Has graduated from the Sofia Musical School and the State Musical Academy. He studied in the class of Prof. Yossif Radionov. I. Penchev won awards at different competitions - “Wieniawski”,“Kocian”, “Svevoslav Obretenov” etc. He took part in the master classes of Max Rostal, Vladimir Spivakov, Svetlana Bezrodnaya, Bernhard Hartog. Since 1990 Penchev plays and is the concert master of many international and Bulgarian young musician orchestras under the baton of Claudio Abado, L. Maazel, Carl Saint Claire, N. Mariner etc. Currently, Ivan Penchev is part of the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra and primaries of one of the best Bulgarian musical ensembles, the “Quarto Quartet”. With the latter he has become laureate of several more chamber music competitions, like “250 Years of Mozart” (2006), the Competition for Austrian Music”( 2008), the “Marin Goleminov” competition (2008) etc.
