Steven Stanke

The Operosa Forum is dedicated to promoting dynamic classical music and opera talent

Dr Steven Stanke studied conducting at the Qld Conservatorium of Music with Alan Cumberland, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with Mats Nilsson and Harry Spence Lyth, and the University of Melbourne with John Hopkins. He also studied composition and music theory at the Qld Conservatorium of Music.
Recent conducting engagements include Sydney Independent Opera, Rockdale Opera, Bucharest Sinfonia, Zelman Orchestra (Melbourne), Preston Orchestra (Melbourne), Monash Chorale (Melbourne), Glen Eira Chorale (Melbourne), The Opera and Oratorio Company of Australia (Sydney), and the Bands of the Royal Australian Navy and Her Majestys Royal Marines.
He has written and transcribed extensively for wind ensemble and is published by Baton Music, Netherlands. He arranged and recorded (with the Royal Australian Navy Band) more than 30 national anthems for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games medal ceremonies and composed the music for national Navy television and cinema advertising in 2002. Steven prepared, produced and conducted a Fritz Hart opera, “The Fantasticks,” in 2010 as part of PhD studies.
Steven founded Sydney Independent Opera in 2011, a company specializing in chamber opera in English, regularly performing at the Independent Theatre (North Sydney) and outer metropolitan areas.
