Laura Virella

Singer/Mezzo

The LA Times called Puerto Rican mezzo-soprano Laura Virella an “instantly believable Frida, a capable singer and actor, compelling on stage” after her title role Long Beach Opera debut in June. “Powerful, compelling and exceptional,” she’s established herself as a leading singer-actor in her generation, captivating audiences in Spain with her “fabulous, powerful and excellent Carmen,” in Austria with her “impressive, fervent Octavian” and the East Coast with Britten’s Mrs. Grose and Verdi’s Maddalena. This winter she returns to Rossini for a New Year's Eve gala performance of Il barbiere di Siviglia. In addition to her wide list of operatic roles, Ms. Virella is one of the world’s principal proponents of Puerto Rican Art Song. www.lauravirella.com
