Biographical notes and repertoire
Ilya Kuzmin studied at the Russian Academy of Music (The Gnessins Academy) in 2000, in the class of Ms. Valentina Levko, renowned Russian mezzo-soprano and vocal professor. Immediately upon graduation, Mr. Kuzmin was invited to the Moscow Novaya Opera Theatre founded by Maestro Evgeny Kolobov and, following a short probation period, became the soloist of Novaya Opera’s permanent troupe.
The title part of Ambroise Thomas’ Hamlet was Ilya Kuzmin’s first work at Novaya Opera: a very rare opera in Russia, this remarkable production premiered in 2000 was the singer’s first success and collected many positive critiques.
In 2003, Ilya Kuzmin received the 3rd Prize of Elena Obraztsova International Young Singers Competition in St-Petersburg.
In 2004, Mr. Kuzmin was awarded with the 1st Prize of the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna.
