Singer/Baritone

The German-Brazilian high baritone Mauricio Virgens began his singing studies in Brazil. He sung in Opera Productions with European singers, who encouraged him to complete his training in Germany. He has attended masterclasses with Grace Bumbry, Edda Moser, Walter Berry, Graciela Alperyn. His Repertoire comprises Pluto (Orpheus in der Unterwelt), Schaunard (La Bohème), Monsieur Vogelsang (Der Schauspieldirektor), Figaro (Der Barbier von Sevilla), Escamillo and Morales (Carmen), Fritz (Die tote Stadt), Pelléas (Pelléas et Mélisande), Billy Budd (Billy Budd) etc. In Europe he often also sings Oratorios, Lieder recitals and also contemporary music such as by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, whose song cycle Tondo di Michelangelo he premiered in 2007 in Manchester and 2008 at the Carnegie Hall (Weil Recital Hall) in New York. He has won prizes at the following competitions; 2003, the Schloss Rheinsberg International Singing Competition; 2006, the Center for Contemporary Opera international Singing Competition in New York.
