Montenegro Opera Festival 2016 – Opera in the street?
Born in Varaždin (Croatia), Jelena Štefanić finished her master studies at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts in 2011.She took lessons with Ruza Baldani,Sylvia Geszty , Gabriele Lechner and Natale de Carolis. Currently she is studying with Cristoph Meier. With only 16 years,Štefanić gave her stage debut in Varaždin as Hyale in Charpentier's Acteon under the baton of Laurence Cumming
Recent 2018 engagements include debut as Vitellia ( La clemenza di Tito) in Konstanz and as Elettra ( Idomeneo ) at Cres Summer Festival and in Zagreb ( Blagoje Bersa Hall). Jelena also sang Madonna Bella ( Caccia lontana) from Antonio Smareglia ( croatian premiere) in Istrian National Theatre, Pula. Year 2018 also includes debut as Leonore ( Il Trovatore) at Croatian National Theatre Osijek,the same role Jelena had the opportunity to perform at Cres Summer Festival 2017 in a semi-staged version. Further more she sang Rosalinde ( Die Fledermaus ) at Open Air Operetten Festival Mullheim, Donna Anna ( Don Giovanni ) at National Theatre Osijek, Erste Dame ( Die Zauberflote ) at State Opera Ruse, Bulgaria, Angelica in ( Orlando) Konstanz Germany.
Future 2018/2019 projects include Madonna Bella in Smareglia's Caccia lontana at National Theatre Varazdin , Leonore ( Il Trovatore ) in Osijek ,debut as Gerhilde( Walkure) at Cres Festival, debut as Rosina ( Il Barbiere) at Croatian National Theatre Varazdin and debut as Maria Stuarda and Cio Cio San ( Butterfly) at Cres Festival.
2015 sang Flores in Charpentier's Le Malade Imaginaire at Croatian National Theatre Varaždin and made debut also at Varaždiner Baroque Evenings Festival.
In 2014 she represented Croatia at CIVC Ningbo, China and she returned in CNT Osijek as Violetta in La Traviata .Same year Jelena was invited to participate at iSing Young Artist Festival,Suzhou,China under guidance of bass,Hao Jiang Tian and honorary chair Placido Domingo where she had opportunity to collaborate with artists such as Katherine Chu (NCPA Beijing), Peter McClintock (Metropolitan Opera).
In 2010,she sang soprano leading role Hetty in a Mendelssohn project,staged by Paul Esterhazy ,Walpurgisn8raum,at the Schlosstheater Schoenbrunn,Vienna where she also 2011 successfully interpreted the role of Apollo in Gluck's Il parnaso confuso.In January 2012,Štefanić sang her first Violetta in La Traviata at Croatian National Theatre in Osijek,where she will return in November 2013. In July 2012,she made her first appereance as Konstanze in Die Entfuehrung aus dem Serail at the Semmering Festival in Austria.Jelena was invited to participate on Placido's Domingo Operalia in Beijing 2012 as a first Croatian female singer in the long history of this world greatest singing competition.
In the beginning of her career,she performed roles such as Student in von Suppe's Boccaccio,Lehrbub in Die Meistersinger von Nuernberg at the Vienna Volksoper and Maruša in Matz's Christmas Tale at the Croatian National Theatre Varaždin ,also smaller roles from baroque repertoire such as First Witch (Dido and Aeneas) , Pan and Priestess (King Arthur), Angelo Custode (La rappresentatione di anima,e di corpo).At that time she collaborated with renowned artists such as Catherine Mackintosch, Christine Mielitz.
On the concert platform,as a soloist, Mrs Štefanić could already be heard at both the Graz and Vienna Musikverein (Wiener Concert Verein Orchestra),Concert Hall NCPA Beijing, Great Hall of the People-China,Hanghzou Grand Theatre, Bunka Kaikan Tokyo among others.
Štefanić recorded her first album,the audio CD Dva glasa (Two Voices) Ruza Pospis Baldani & Jelena Štefanić for the record label AULOS.
