sharon mohar

Stage director

Artistic director of “Les Maitres Sonneurs” Opera Company, based in Toulouse, France. Founded in 2014 with conductor Valerio Civano from La Scala, “Les Maitres Sonneurs” promotes opera as a theatrical and accessible art for all, and functions in part as a laboratoir lyrique, offering coaching and acting lessons for singers.
Ms. Mohar has a long-standing collaboration with pianist Yonathan Avishai that has been responsible for numerous musical stage productions and workshops for singers and actors all over France. Several of their productions have won awards, notably Il etait une fois un gribouille, a French musical fantasy which won first prize in the festival “Le Bonheur des Mômes” in 2007 and Romeo and Juliet – a jazz love story, a first prize winner in the 2008 Avignon festival.
Through her varied experience as teacher and director, Ms. Mohar has developed a teaching method called The Active Triangle. Based on the relationship between body language and the stage, this innovative technique concentrates on how to use text, music and rhythm (often a misunderstood concept) as tools for interpretation. The singer creates a connection with the audience through music, creating The Active Triangle as these three elements (Singer-Music-Audience) energize and nourish each other.
