You might have seen The Colombian Lyric Soprano Amalia Avilán at the 2016 edition Masterclasses of Joyce DiDonato at Carnegie Hall that recently was broadcast by medici.tv. If you did then you would certainly have noticed her warm and round timbre. This unique quality of voice plus years of dedication and perseverance have led her to perform in great venues such as: Julio Mario Santodomingo’s Theater in Colombia, La Monnaie, Flagey and Bozar in Belgium, The Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Greece to name a few. She debuted as Mimì (La Bohème, Puccini) in 2015 in France, Countess Ceprano (Rigoletto, Verdi), Manuela (Romeo and Juliette, Gounod), A Young lady and Spirit (Cendrillon, Massenet) and projects in her repertory roles as Desdemona (Otello,Verdi) and Liu (Turandot, Puccini).
he studied musical pedagogy at the Columbian National University of Pedagogy, singing with the Cuban baritone Ramón Calzadilla before going on to a 4 years opera studio program in Belgium at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in the class of José van Dam.
Supported by the European Opera Network (Enoa) she has been given the opportunity to work with Tom Krause, Anita Garanča, Nelly Miricioiu and June Anderson among other great artist.
Throughout Europe, Colombia, and Chile she has performed concerts and recitals, and recently debuted in Mozart’s Requiem with the Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra and the conductor Patrick Fournillier.
